Was our trip to the South Pacific Successful ???

count down

Hi Ya All,

At the end of March 2016 we set sail, figuratively speaking of course, we actual took flight, for the South Pacific in search of finding our chill haven which we call PeanieSutra.

During our tour through The Cook Islands, Vanuatu and Fiji, we posted much about our experiences and hinted at some of the business opportunities we where exploring.

We looked at accommodation, lounge bars, and cafe type of opportunities, with one key criteria – they must overlook the blue pacific ocean, white beaches and beautiful green palms of course.

In the Cook Islands we first found a cozy and friendly little boutique hotel. Although we loved it, upon closer analysis we felt that it was a little to pricey for the returns it promised. We then came across a cool cafe but our offer was beaten by a slight time margin. This was devastating for Peanie 🙁

We continued our search and found another cafe / restaurant which was recently modernised. As we looked into this opportunity another opportunity popped up that really got our minds working. We found ourselves in a position of needing to choose one. Although they were completely different businesses, we felt a strong attracted to both. But could only go with one. And as fate has it, circumstances got us to decide on the latter.

However, fate only came into play while we were looking around in Vanuatu for opportunities.

The main types of business on offer in Vanuatu that we explored where accommodation (i.e back packer lodge and guest house) and restaurants in the centre of Port Villa. The accommodation we found to be to expensive and the restaurant trade really needed experts who knew this type of business … we could not afford the learning period required. We needed something that would work from the outset.

Right, back to fate. It was during our time in Vanuatu that the decision around the Cook Island two opportunities was going down. We concluded our initial due diligence on the second opportunity and decided to make an offer. It was accepted :-))))

Since then we have been working through the final due diligence, legal process of acquiring a business and migrating to the Cook Islands. However, we have not told you what business it is … and we will not until the we have signed the dotted line which should take place in the next few days.

So hold tight … much much more to come.

In the interim we have installed a count down at the bottom of peaniesutra.com’s home page. If all goes to plan, when the timer hits zero, is when we take over the business in Avarua, Rarotonga, the main island of The Cook Islands.

t – 123 days and counting :-)))

“What about the photography, writing and publishing of articles?” I hear you asking. In our posts on this site, you have seen a small sample of the pictures we have taken during our trip . BTW – we have in excess of 5,000 “quality ;-)” images. Once the dust has settled on getting the opportunity agreement signed, we will commence with compiling some articles for the likes of GEO, National Geographic etc. So here too … much much more to come 🙂

Peanie Gets it … her Scooter Licence

Pink Scooter

Right, so the journey continues …

Day 7 (April 7) – Police Station, Part 2

I (Peanie) joined the club of Cook Islands driving licence owners 🙂

As I have no German scooter license I also had to go through the practical test for this vehicle… This movie about my preparation and final test will make you smile:

Coming Soon to a Blog near you: “10 Weeks in Paradise”

paradise

Yep, plans are set … departing 30 March, returning 18 June … 10 whole weeks in paradise. Ten carefully balanced weeks … between work and Chill 🙂

Paradise 1: Rarotonga, Aitutaki and Akaiami – islands of The Cook Islands

cook-islands

The first four weeks will be spent in The Cook Islands where we will be evaluate two small resorts up for sale. We will be spending a few nights at each to fully understanding what is on offer and their future potential.

In addition – and this goes for the other locations we will be visiting too – we have a whole list of people we want to interview to gain insights about living and owning a business there. The people we plan to interview include medical doctors, accountants, tax advisors, bank managers, lawyers, estate agents (for living and business property), local business owners and people on vacation.

Then we have a week away from it all on a beautiful remote island, in the middle of the Aitutaki lagoon, called Akaiami. There a windsurfer has already been arranged for Pietro :-)))

Paradise 2: Port Villa, Tanna and Pentecost – Vanuatu

Vanuatu

The second four weeks will be in Vanuatu with the same agenda as for The Cook Islands.

In addition we will be doing a chartered flight over the volcanic island of Ambrym and its active vulcanos to obtain aerial photographs. Did we mention that we are exploring the option of combining photograph and writing articles for travel publications. (We’ll reveal more on this in the next post)

Paradise 3: Fiji

Fiji

Fiji is the third Option on our list of potential island states to live in. We will be spending 2 weeks in Fiji, and while this leg of the visit is still under construction, our main objective here is to assess the business climate and ensure we are not potentially missing an opportunity by focusing our efforts on The Cooks and Vanuatu.

Exciting times :-))

When we travel, we will keep you posted with picture from paradise and our search for Peaniesutra … the Chill haven.

Ciao for now 😉

Rediscovering “SurferBoy”

windsurfing

… I can just hear the SurferBoy jingel … something like the theme song to Superman :-))))

Windsurfing was my passion in the 1980’s. Back then when Robby Nash, another perfect 1963 vintage :-), was emerging as the worlds windsurfer “wunderkind”. As with many, the responsibilities of life and a family steadily blew away my windsurfing time, until it came to a dead stop.

No worries man … I’m back … and ready to ride again!

So I’m studying the latest windsurfing gear on offer, and discovered that some things have chnaged for the better. However, all in all I am glad to report that the basics remain the same … balance on the board, hold on to the sail … and away you go 🙂

Next, I wanted to explore windsurfing location … starting with The Cook Islands. During my last visit I suspected that the Aitutaki lagoon was a perfect spot for speed surfing. However I did  not see much back then. Surfing the net, I discovered that other adventure windsurfers discovered it too. Click here for a bit more.

Windsurf Paradise

Then I discovered that Kitesurfing is even bigger with some international events having been hosted at the lagoon. Guess I am gonna have to give it a bash!

KiteSurfing in Aitutaki.

Keep tuned to find out how this rediscovery of an awesome watersport pans out.

Be cool.
